The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Dikko Inde has voluntarily resigned and the President, Muhammadu Buhari has since accepted his resignation.

He asked to leave on August 3 and his resignation was accepted on Monday, August 17. He has been the Boss of Customs for 6 years.

In a chat with journalists after tendering his resignation, Inde said his move is as preemptive as they come, given the gale of sacks by the new sheriff in town.

“The time I’m leaving is the time I feel those young ones that have developed the software can come up and manage the software,” he told journalists shortly after meeting the president.

“So that is basically the reason and I’m sending out this signal to all those who have stayed put.

“Don’t stay until you are asked you to go. When you feel you have done so much and you believe in the system you have built, then why do you stay? Why don’t you be an umpire? Leave, be by the side and watch and advise,” he said.

He said he improved customs during his time at the helm, adding “we have no fear”.
