Breadwinner claims that social media has destroyed his 10-year old marriage

ADO Ekiti businessman Muyiwa Owolabi is seeking a divorce from his wife Tinuola after accusing her of engaging in serial adultery with men she met in numerous social media like Facebook.

In what is now becoming a growing phenomenon, Mr Owolabi claims that social media has destroyed his 10-year old marriage as his wife had met up with several men she had met online. He filed for divorce at an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court to seek dissolution of their marriage, claiming Tinuola uses media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to connect with many men who are now her man friends and concubines.

At the hearing, both the petitioner and the defendant agreed on the dissolution the marriage over irreconcilable differences but the court is yet to resolve on the custody of their two children. Muyiwa, the petitioner, claimed that he had caught his wife with several men including his junior at secondary school.

Mr Owolabi told the court that he had the printouts of the adulterous communications and pictures, including private ones and other amorous messages between his wife and the men. He also claimed to have compromising pictures on WhatsApp, and a conversation with one Toyin Igbalajobi, his wife's Lagos-based friend who allegedly connected her with other men.

During the course of the trial, the NOKIA C3 phone on which the pictures were received was admitted as evidence by the court president Joseph Ogunsemi and marked as exhibits. Muyiwa also identified other men his wife had amorous relationship with to include Aduloju Olu Yinka Daramola, Kunle Lawal, Bashir and Andy Harris who is based overseas.

Mr Owolabi later told the court that he caught Tinuola with one Benson Onyechere, his junior at Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti, who usually speaks with her on phone but when he caught her, she replaced Benson’s name with a supposedly female name, Bola to hide her lover’s identity. He added that another Facebook lover is one Taiwo Oyetunji whom his wife claimed she met on the social media platform on March 27, 2012 while another Facebook lover, one Alaba Sunday Samson had the effrontery of coming to their matrimonial home to visit Tinuola.
