TWO market women in Lagos State are facing the prospect of being charged with public fracas after they got involved in a violent fight that left one of them with three missing teeth over a dispute about urinating.
During the fight which took place at Daddy Alaja Market at Oke-Arin on Lagos Island, two of the women descended on a third for challenging then for urinating in public. Both of the assailants have been remanded at Kirikiri Prison in Apapa, Lagos State pending them meeting bail conditions before they are charged to court.
Last week, Amina Adegun, 31, who claimed to be an accountancy graduate from the University of Lagos and Rukkayat Adebola Ladejobi, 36, who resides at 2B, Bank Olemo Street, Surulere, who claims to be a graduate from Yaba College of Technology, were arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of felony to assault, occasioning permanent injury. They allegedly hit Oluwaseyi Olaoluwa with a stone during the bloody fight and removed three of her teeth simply because she remonstrated with them for urinating inside the market.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Ignatius Okeke, informed the court that trouble began between the accused persons and the complainant when she challenged the accused persons for urinating inside the market near where wares were displayed. He said the accused persons descended on the complainant and in the process, picked a big stone and landed it on her mouth, leading to three teeth falling off.
Inspector Okeke said the complainant collapsed and had to be revived at a hospital she was taken to. He said the offences are punishable under sections 409 and 244 of criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the crime and the Magistrate, Mr Owolabi, admitted them to bail in the sum of N100,000 (£330) each with two sureties in like sum. He then adjourned the case until November 2 for mention.
