It was a day of mourning in the Igbo community of Bauchi State following the gruesome killing of a Pastor and his wife in Bayan Garin area, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.
The deceased couple, Mr Obi William and his wife, Ebere, a thrift collector were shot to death by the gunmen on the evening of Thursday, October, 15, 2015.
The murder of William who hailed from Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State and his wife, an indigene of Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has added to the growing list of Igbos that have been killed in cold blood in the state in recent times.
Confirming the incident, the police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Bauchi command, Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Haruna Mohammed said that the gunmen attacked the couple at Bayan Gari area in the state capital at about 7:45 pm on that fateful day.
Mohammed told newsmen in his office that the suspects took a bag from Ebere, undisclosed amount of money being thrift collected from her customers that day as contributions and fled after shooting the couple.
He said : “Police detectives attached to the Estate Division rushed to the scene and evacuated Williams and his wife to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi where they were certified dead on arrival by doctors”
“The exhibit recovered from the scene of the crime was an expanded ammunition of 7.62 mm and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act”
