Nigeria Named the Country With the Highest Accident Rate in the World & Worst Roads in Africa

In a campaign yesterday, Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has lamented the WHO ranking which shows that Nigeria has the highest rate of accidents in the world.

 
According to a controversial report from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Nigeria has been ranked the top country with the highest rate of accidents in the world. 
 
The country was further adjudged the most unsafe roads in Africa, adding that one in every four road accident deaths in Africa occurred in Nigeria.
 
Speaking on Wednesday, at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) 2015 Ember months campaign flag-off in Kano, Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, lamented the ranking by WHO and called for urgent steps to correct the situation.
 
"Let us not fold our arms to let loses of lives continue unabated. All hands must be on deck to curtail the unwholesome development, road users, especially commercial motorists should desist from reckless driving and avoid driving having drunk."
 
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, in his remark, explained that the aim of the rally was to educate members of the public on the need to be extra careful during the ember months.
 
He announced that next year April was the deadline to effect speed limit device and also disclosed that the FRSC would establish mini plant for the production of number plates for motorcycles and tricycles.
