105 soldiers not missing in Borno – Army spokesman

The Nigerian Army has described as untrue media reports that 105 soldiers were missing after deadly attack by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The media was awash on Wednesday with reports that an intense attack from Boko Haram insurgents at Gudunbali, Borno State, resulted in the 157 Battalion of the Nigerian Army not being able to account for at least, 105 soldiers including their commanding officer.

However, in a text message sent to DAILY POST Friday morning, Colonel S.K Usman, the Ag. Director Army Public Relations said the Commanding Officer was right now with the soldiers.

“Troops operating in the northern Borno State towns of Gudumbali and Kareto had slight setback within the week.

“However, the situation has been stabilised. The troops have rejoined their units for further action.

“The earlier media reports were exaggerated. The CO is right now with his soldiers. It’s just a minor setback and such are common in military operations. May God help us all”, his text read.
