Blogger summoned to court for ‘improper’ tweet

Blogger Robert Alai has been summoned to appear in court Wednesday to face charges of improper use of a licensed telecommunication system.

Chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo issued the summons on Tuesday.

The blogger will face changes of posting on his Twitter account a message with an intent to annoy the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission chief executive Halake Waqo.

In the said post, the blogger specifically mentioned the anti-corruption boss while tweeting about his (Waqo) education credentials.

LAWSUITS

The controversial blogger is no stranger to lawsuits and has severally appeared in court to face various charges. On February 5, 2015, he was arrested for linking former TV anchor Julie Gichuru’s husband, Tony Gichuru, to land grabbing in Nairobi.

The blogger was detained at the CID headquarters as the police investigated him over statements he made on the grabbing of the Lang’ata Road Primary School playground and another piece of land in Ruai.

In December last year, the controversial blogger was charged in a Kiambu court with undermining President Uhuru Kenyatta via Twitter.

Mr Alai was freed on a bond of Sh300,000 with an alternative of a Sh200,000 cash bail and warned by the magistrate not post on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp or any other publication any content that is similar to the subject before the court.
