A dad enjoyed an astonishing double celebration when his son was born on his own Leap Year birthday.

David Kennedy, 32, and newborn son Harrison both share the February 29 birthday - beating odds of two-million-to-one.

The head chef was born on the unique date in 1984 - which means he technically turned eight.

Little Harrison - who was delivered by caesarean section at 3.10am - will have to wait until 2020 for his first official birthday.

Proud David, from Malvern, Worcs, said: "It is an incredible moment for me to share my Leap Year birthday with my son.

"He was actually due on February 28 and we always knew there was a chance he could be late.

"When my wife went into labour at 10pm I said to her 'please wait a couple more hours so we can have the same birthday.'

"He was born by caesarean but is healthy and Alice is doing great too.

"It's a wonderful day.

"Being born on a leap year has always been special for me but it's amazing to have my son to share the experience with.

"The odds of a parent and child sharing a Leap Year birthday are two million to one so it really is a miracle.

"We always wanted another child but never believed we would have another Leap Year birthday in the family.

"We've had lots of people telling me to buy a lottery ticket this weekend."

David and Harrison, who weighed 6lbs 13oz, will celebrate their non-Leap Year birthdays on March 1.

Delighted mum Alice, 26, a supermarket worker, only realised she was pregnant after returning from honeymoon last July.

The couple also have a two-year-old daughter Lily.
