A global increase in temperature made February the hottest in a century, according to data from American space agency Nasa.
Data from Nasa shows the average global surface temperature in February was 1.35C warmer than the average temperature for the past 50 years, a far bigger margin than ever seen before.
“This result is a true shocker, and yet another reminder of the incessant long-term rise in global temperature resulting from human-produced greenhouse gases,” Meteorologist Jeff Masters said about the results.
LARGEST DEVIATION
The month of January in 2016 was also the hottest January on record and had held the record for the largest deviation from the average temperature before the month of February.
The absolute hottest month ever on record occurred in July 2015.
Kenya has also experienced an increase in temperature, according to the Meteorology department.
“The trend is that temperatures have been going up steadily in the country for the last 10 years, which are indications of climate change. This trend is expected to continue,” said Dr Ayub Shaka, the assistant director at the Kenya Meteorological Department.
