Oscar Pistorius, the South African double amputee Olympic and Paralympic champion who was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013, may be leaving jail soon.
South African legal journalist, Karyn Maughan had more details on the still developing story.
The Pistorius trial garnered worldwide attention and lasted six riveting months in 2014.
South African legal experts said at the time Pistorius must serve at least one-sixth of his sentence before being considered for house arrest. On a five-year sentence, that would be around 10 months.
That means that if the August 21 date is confirmed, Pistorius will be leaving prison at about the recommended time for legal experts.
Pistorius said he shot his girlfriend in the bathroom because he thought an armed intruder had invaded the apartment.
