WWE Fastlane 2016 results: Roman Reigns-Triple H set for WrestleMania

The main event of WWE's biggest event of the year, WrestleMania 32, is now set.

It will be Roman Reigns challenging Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship on April 3 in Arlington, Texas.

WWE's Fastlane pay-per-view on Sunday was an up-and-down affair, but while many will turn their nose up at the result of the No. 1 contender's match -- Reigns scoring a pinfall over Dean Ambrose in a triple threat affair that included Brock Lesnar -- few can argue that it was an entertaining way to finish the show.

Reigns and Ambrose put Lesnar through not one but two announce tables, Lesnar delivered 10 suplexes (eight German, two belly-to-belly) and ultimately WWE stuck to its guns and had its chosen one go over in Reigns.

Like it or not, WWE believes it has a solid storyline and plan with Reigns-Triple H at WrestleMania, and this time they don't have an out. At WrestleMania XXX, WWE added Daniel Bryan to a Randy Orton vs. Batista main event and let Bryan go out with the title. Last year at WrestleMania 31, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and pinned Reigns, who was matched up against Lesnar. Twelve months later, Rollins is injured and Reigns is back in the main event with Triple H in place of Lesnar as the title holder.

But there was more that happened at WWE Fastlane on Sunday other than the main event.

The good: Kevin Owens retained the Intercontinental Championship in what was arguably the match of the night against Dolph Ziggler. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch teamed up for a double-submission win and thrust themselves into a likely WrestleMania triple threat match against Divas champion Charlotte. A.J. Styles won his "best of three" series over Chris Jericho, continuing his push as WWE's newest superstar despite being at the advanced age of 38. Kalisto retained his United States Championship in a 2-of-3 falls match that aired on the kickoff show but should have been saved for the PPV.

The bad: Brie Bella was not a match talent-wise for Charlotte, who retained her title in a sloppy match that put the crowd to sleep until the ending. WWE creative continued its trend of making the Wyatt Family strong on television but weak on PPVs with them once again losing to a team that was just thrown together (Ryback/Big Show/Kane).

The ugly: WWE moved from a strong undercard to an average mid-card and then put the breaks on Fastlane with a comedy segment involving Edge and Christian, New Day and League of Nations before holding a three-minute non-advertised match between jobbers R-Truth and Curtis Axel that had no business being on the show.

Be sure to check back with CBS Sports as we continue to cover the Road to WrestleMania and the event itself in early April.
