Ghana and Algeria have both qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2015 African Cup of Nations tournament in Equatorial Guinea .
Both teams secured a 2-1 and 2-0 wins respectively which trumped their points tally to six each, thereby securing the top two positions.
The Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Teranga Lions of Senegal became the casualties as they crashed out of the tournament following their losses on the night.
In a group that was termed the group of death, it needed the last round of matches to determine which team would go through.
Both Ghana and Algeria got the needed victory in their matches, while defeats eliminated South Africa and Senegal.
Senegal who got the first win of the tournament, will be ruing their ouster, despite leading the group after two matches .
Two goals by Riyad Mahrez and Nabil Bentaleb made the difference for Algeria against Senegal as they finished the group in second position.
South Africa on their part in the three matches that they played, led the games, but their failure to capitalize on leads cost them the games.

And it was their habit of giving up leads that cost them against Ghana. Two late goals from John Boye and Andre Ayew canceled out Mandla Masango's early strike.
The Black Stars and the Desert Foxes now joins the other four teams that have already qualified for the last eight.
