The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have congratulated the Golden Eaglets team for winning their first match at the African Under 17 Championship in Niger Republic.

Nigeria defeated Niger 2-0 in the opening game of the competition, gaining all three points that took them to the top of the table.

The NFF through its official Twitter handle sent out a congratulatory message to the team urging them to go ahead and win their next match. 

“Great start, Eaglets. #goeagletssoar #goeagletssoar #worldchampions. Guinea’s U17 is next up for the Eaglets on February 18. #goeagletssoar,” the NFF tweeted on Sunday.

Golden Eaglets will next play against Guinea who defeated Zambia 1-0 in their own game on Sunday.

A win for either side will guarantee a place in the semifinals and by extension qualification for the World Cup tournament.
