A politician was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his nephew because he stole his cellphone, according to police in Nigeria.

Anambra police said that they have arrested Chidiebere Onyema, who represents the Nsogwu Umunze Ward 2 region, after being accused of the beating death of 19-year-old Nnanyere Onyema.

 The mother of the dead teen, Gloria Onyema, said that her son died as a result of a beating by Councillor Chidiebere.

Chidiebere came to the woman’s home and asked to see Nnanyere.

The woman’s husband, Okwudili Onyema, told investigators that Chidiebere was fuming because Nnanyere took away his phone.

The father told the politician that his son was not home. The politician left, and came back later when the parents were not home.

He then beat Nnanyere to death. When the parents came home, they took their son to the Immaculate Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
