Bad leadership, lack of political will responsible for Boko Haram in Nigeria – TY Dajuma

Elder statesman, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) has attributed the birth and rise of Boko Haram insurgency to bad governance and leadership in the country.

The former Chief of Army Staff also noted that Boko Haram emerged due to lack of commitment by the government.

Danjuma said this at the 3rd annual Chief Ogiri Okoh memorial lecture which was organised by the Idoma National Forum.

He said, “The destruction caused by Boko Harm insurgency and the many years the group has terrorised the country is traceable to bad governance, intelligence failures, lack of political will, absence of state presence in local areas, initial abysmal performance by the security forces, loss of territory to irregular forces, which we suffered at the height of the insurgency.

“All these sufferings are manifestations of bad governance and state failure.”
