The trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is standing trial for false assets declaration, took a dramatic twist at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Tuesday as the tribunal Chairman, Danladi Umar threatened to jail supporters of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Umar gave the threat following rude comments from some supporters of the Senate President.
Saraki’s supporters had repeatedly shouted at the lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs SAN to “sit down” while he was making his submissions.
The tribunal Chairman, who frowned at the action of Saraki’s supporters, ordered them to keep quiet or he would hold them for contempt.
“If I hear anybody ask the counsel to sit down, I will deal with the person and nobody can question me about it. In fact, I will hold the person in contempt and sentence the person to hard labour and nobody will question me,” Umar said.
