The camp of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Irele local government area of Ondo State, at the weekend, depleted as nine prominent leaders of the party led thousands of their followers to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were some of the major financiers of PDP in the state.
They are: Prince Jimi Odimayo, former local government Chairman; Hon. Shedrach Olowojuni; Hon. Bayo Adekanle, former PDP House of Representatives aspirant; Moyebi Orimisan; Ladese Agboola; Hon. Damilola Oripinye; Akindele Olowokandi; Chief Luwoye and Chief Akingboju.
The defectors were received into the APC by the State Deputy Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, State Publicity Secretary, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya and the Assistant State Welfare Officer, Mr. Tunji Fabiyi.
Odimayo said they were tired of a party that cannot stand on its words in both political and economy activities of the state.
He said: “We are tired of a government giving excuses; who cannot pay workers’ salaries, who cannot complete meaningful projects that can change the economy activities of this town.
“Irele is linked with some major towns and a bridge was under construction by the late Olusegun Agagu’s administration to link this towns together but it was abandoned by this Olusegun Mimiko’s government.
“If we go there now, you will see our people using canoes to link each of the town. So we are tired and we need a change”.
The business mogul urged the people of the state to vote for a candidate that would transform the state not someone who had spent seven and half years in a government and had been given the masses excuses.
He expressed his confidence in the candidature of Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the APC, saying he believes the legal practictioner emerged through a transparent primary election.
Also, Olowojuni said their departure from the PDP had brought an end to PDP in the community, saying 70 percent of their followers, who defected with them to APC are from the ward of the incumbent Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Remi Olatubora.
He stressed that they are in support of President Muhammadu Buahri change agenda and are highly impressed at his war against corruption.
Responding, APC deputy chairman, Adetimehin described the defection as mass movement of the masses from a crumbled party to a party generally believed to have the love of the masses in its heart.
The party leader also said their defection was a sign that APC will win Irele come November 26, assuring the new members of equal opportunity.
