Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, and Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet TB Joshua, have come under harsh criticism over statements they made ahead of the US presidential election.
Soyinka, now living in US, told students at the Oxford University’s Ertegun House he will tear his residency permit if Trump eventually wins the polls.
“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that,” said Soyinka.
“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”
The 82-year-old is scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs.
Joshua, on his part, predicted a slim victory Clinton.
The 53-year-old said on his Facebook page, “Ten days ago, I saw the new President of America with a narrow win. The new President will be facing several challenges over many issues, including: passing bills, attempts to possibly pass a vote of no confidence on the new President. The boat of the new President will be rocked.
“By the way, in order not to keep you in suspense, what I frankly saw is a woman.”
The election results are out, with Americans electing Republican Donald Trump as their 45th president
Trust Nigerians, they were quick to throw shades at Soyinka and Joshua.
