PEOPLE'S Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign media director Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has joined the growing list of politicians calling for conciliation after the divisive elections by saying that his attacks on General Muhammadu Buhari were not personal. 

During the campaigns, Chief Fani-Kayode was one of General Buhari's fiercest critics and labelled him unfit to govern the country. Chief Fani-Kayode said General Buhari did not have the minimum qualifications required for the jobs which were O'Levels and asked the Nigerian Army to strip him of his ranks. 

With the elections, over, however, both the PDP and General Buhari's All Progressives Congress (APC) have decided to tone the rhetoric down and work on a transition. President Goodluck Jonathan set the ball rolling by phoning General Buhari and congratulating him and in return, the general has asked his supporters to be responsible with their celebrations and not attack PDP supporters. 

Yesterday, Chief Fani-Kayode said that all his attacks against General Buhari and the APC during the electioneering, were what his job required of him and not personal. He also commended the APC campaign directorate for doing something they believe in. 

Chief Fani-Kayode said: “There was absolutely nothing personal as regards this directorate or myself. I had nothing personal against anybody and I was simply doing my job for which I have no regrets and I wish them well and sincerely hope that they will take Nigeria to a level that we can all be proud of. 

 “We start by saying that we commend and we congratulate General Muhammadu Buhari for winning this election. We also wish to commend President Goodluck Jonathan, for having the courage to concede that he has lost the election at the earliest moment and also for being able to stand up and rise above party politics and being able to speak like a statesman.” 

He also prayed for peace in the country and success for General Buhari, asking that God guide President Jonathan for the next two months while he is still in power and thereafter. Chief Fani-Kayode also called on Nigerians to continue to support the PDP, despite losing the election. 

He added that he had no regret for serving President Jonathan and the PDP and advised the party not to lose hope. According to Chief Fani-Kayode, the PDP just needs to re-group, re-organise itself and begin the process all over again because another election will come in a few years’ time.
