Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian leader, has disclaimed a video purportedly showing huge sums of money found in one of his houses during a police raid. He however said no such money was found in any of his residences. Jonathan, through his media aide, Reno Omokiri, said the All Progressives Congress was behind the viral video.
“Let it be known that no police officers or any other security agents have stormed any of the residences of former President Jonathan and no cache of dollars or any other foreign currencies have been found in any of his residences”, said the statement by Omokiri.
Jonathan said even the “curious burglary” of one of his homes in 2017 didn’t yield any loads of cash for the burglars, but “only sundry properties and electronics were stolen”. Jonathan said he is a “modest man and whatever he has by way of cash and property are the result of his legitimate earnings”.
“That nothing implicating has been found on him should not lead his traducers to become desperate and fabricate evidence and circulate it as propaganda.”
Recently, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has accused the ex-president of massive looting, totaling N150billion, during his administration. Osinbajo had said huge sum of money was withdrawn and taken to Jonathan’s residence two weeks to the 2015 election, an allegation the former president vehemently denied.
The Nation in a report last week had said the federal government was determined to release evidences of massive lootings.
The report said: “A fact-sheet by the Presidency revealed how some funds were illegally transported from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the private residence of the former President.”
It was also said, “Federal Government sources said although there was no immediate plan to arrest or quiz the former President, the government had not ruled out the option.”
Newsbreak.ng recalls that the embattled former president alerted there was a plan to assail his reputation.
“It has been brought to my attention that while I am away promoting democracy in Sierra Leone, a campaign will be unleashed against me to falsely impugn my name using both faceless and identified persons,” he had said at the time.
