Many Nigerians, especially politicians, were today in a celebratory mood as both the Federal Government and some states in the country honoured Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election.
On June 6, 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari posthumously honoured Abiola with Nigeria’s highest title, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).
June 12 was declared as Democracy Day in Nigeria.
But, apart from Lagos State Government declaring a public holiday, it unveiled a statue in honour of the late MKO Abiola, now seen as a symbol of democracy.
