MKO Abiola and Sani Abacha are two persons who will forever be talked about as far as the history of Nigeria is concerned. While MKO Abiola is known for his fight and eventual death while trying to reclaim his stolen mandate after winning the June 12 1993 election, Sani Abacha is renown or being one of Nigeria's most ruthless leaders.

 

However, history will remember the two side by side because their individual stories are not complete without a mention of the other.

 

Sani Abacha is believed to have been MKO Abiola's biggest tormentor. In fact, it is rumoured that Abiola's wife, Kudirat was killed off by Abacha while she was campaigning for her husband's mandate.

 

Abacha kept Abiola locked away till they both died just months apart.

 

For this reasons, many young Nigerians can't imagine Abacha and Abiola as friends but this throwback photo (seen above) clarifies this.

 

The two men are seen with a former Lagos state governor, Sir Michael Otedola.

 

Abiola and Abacha used to be friends who could actually sit and hold a conversation together. It is sad that things turned sour at the end.
