BREAKING NEWS: Ex-Senate Leader, Senators Defect To APC READ MORE:

In less than three days to the governorship and House of Assembly elections across the country, reports emerging from Adamawa State indicate that, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a huge loss.

A former Senate Majority Leader, Jonathan Zwingina, a former Minister of External Affairs, Idi Hong, and two serving Senators have dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Premium Times reported that their defection was made known at a press conference on Wednesday in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

It was gathered that serving Senators comprising, Bello Tukur and Ahmed Barata, as well as Sadiq Haske, who was a chieftain of the PDP, also defected.

Mr. Zwingina, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, said they decided to join the APC in order to support Bindow Jibrilla, the party’s governorship candidate in Saturday’s April 11 polls.

“We are positive of the change going on now in the country; we believe in the candidacy of Bindow,” he said.

Meanwhile, Messrs Zwingina and Hong who contested for the Adamawa Central and Southern district in the National Assembly elections held on March 28 both lost out.

They had earlier in day met with the President-elect, Gneral Muhammadu Buhari, during his visit to Yola to campaign for the APC governorship and house of assembly candidates in the April 11 elections.

PDP might find the governorship and House of Assembly elections difficult to win, especially in states like Edo, where  over 5000 youths in Oredo Local Government Area who voted for the party in 2015 general elections, are set to defect to the APC.

Eight serving PDP lawmakers in Katsina state and other prominent members of the party, have also indicated interest to join the APC ahead of Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections.

But some PDP stalwarts like Senate president, David Mark, and Ike Ekweremadu have remained resolute in staying with the party.
