Okorocha’s family properties: UPP questions sources of sudden wealth

The United Progressives Party (UPP) has reacted to a statement credited to Chief Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Imo State who in a recent statement revealed various properties owned by his family members.

The governor in an interview published by the Daily Sun, May 30, 2018 had said: “My wife has built an estate here in Owerri and she has also established a furniture manufacturing company here, in Owerri; my daughter owns the House of Fredda here in Owerri, and the most maligned Uche Nwosu owns a hotel and a farm here, in Owerri. Now ask those fighting me to show you their investments in the state.”

Reacting to the statement, UPP recalled that Uche Nwosu up till 2010, had no job after he reportedly failed the ten thousand jobs screening interview initiated by the Ikedi Ohakim led administration, and while his wife, Nneoma Okorocha by 2009 was still a caterer. For his daughter Uloma, who was later married to Uche Nwosu, UPP claimed that she had barely graduated in 2011 when her father was sworn in as Executive Governor.

“So how did they rise to these stupendous wealth in a very short time”?
In a Press Release issued in Owerri; UPP said: “As a party, poised to return Imo back on track, we make bold to state that the governor’s recent interview is a panic measure to save himself from our concluded plan to revoke all Imo properties appropriated to himself and family members including the now controversial Eastern Palm University Ogboko.”

The Release issued by Chief John Nwokorie, Ag. State Chairman said, “the governor whose regime remains the worst in the history of democracy in Nigeria has lately realized that time is fast ticking, and he will soon stop being a governor and cease to inflict pain, agony and destruction on the people.”

“We also make bold to say that Imo people should expect more of these desperate moves to cover his tracks. Just last week ,it was reported that the Acho Ihim-led Imo House of Assembly perfected a bill to cede majority shares of the Eastern Palm University to Chief Okorocha and his Rochas Foundation College.

“You will recall that UPP had before now assured Imolites that these properties built with tax payers money will certainly be revoked after 2019 when a governor on the platform of UPP would have been sworn in. But following plans of the governor to perfect documentation to enable him own public assets; we have resolved to approach the court to ensure we stop him.”
