The Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, Aminu Tambuwal, has won the Sokoto State Governorship Election.
Honourable Tambuwal got the highest vote in all the 23 Local Government Areas in the State.
The Returning Officer for the Sokoto State Governorship Election, Professor Abdul Bagudu said Honourable Tambuwal polled 647,609 votes while the runner-up and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Abdallah Wali, polled 269,074 votes.
A total of 958,736 votes were cast and the total number of valid votes stood at 926,682.
Professor Bagudu said 32,054 votes were rejected.
In his acceptance speech, Honourable Tambuwal promised not to disappoint the confidence of the people in him.
He commended the people for the orderly manner in which they conducted themselves during the election and also for electing him.
The Governor-elect won the seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party but defected to the APC on October 28, 2014, days after a rumour of his defection was denied by his spokesman, Mr Imam Imam
Announcing his defection to the APC, Honourable Tambuwal said his defection was because of his political future and the political consideration of his state, Sokoto.
