Gov. Kwankwaso and Gov-elect Ganduje are already fighting over a certain N50m gift - True or False?

Reports from The Cable say that with just ten days to handover, cracks have already emerged in the relationship between Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and his deputy who is the governor-elect, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The paper reports that Kwankwaso presented a parting gift of N50 million to Ganduje which the governor-elect rejected.

Kwankwaso and Ganduje have a long relationship with each other, serving as governor and deputy from 1999 to 2003 when they lost the election. They reunited when Kwankwaso became minister and Ganduje was his top aide. They came back to power as governor and deputy in 2011.

With Kwankwaso going to the Senate, Ganduje will be taking over as governor the only deputy who got the endorsement of his boss to succeed him.

According to TheCable:

Unlike Ganduje, other aides of Kwankwaso, who were also offered cash gifts, accepted them. He said the governor paid himself 100 million, while his commissioners allegedly received N5 million each. Kwankwaso’s special advisers were not left out of the largesse, as each of them were said to have collected N2.5 million.

Other aides of the governor were allotted houses and plots of land at Kwankwasiyya city, Amana city and Bandirawo.

Several telephone calls made by TheCable to Baba Dantiye, the governor’s director of press, were unanswered, but he eventually replied a text message to the same telephone line, simply saying: “I don’t know about it.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of contractors of the state are complaining of bankruptcy, while indigenes of Kano who are on scholarship at various higher Institutions, have not received bursary payments for three consecutive years.
