The incumbent governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has come under intense criticism for threatening to expose the alleged corrupt activities of the governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, if the latter decides to probe his administration.
Rotimi issued this threats at a gathering with friends in a get-together to mark his 50th birthday in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, May 26.
At the occasion, Amaechi recalled that Wike, was his chief of staff for four years. He also dared the governor-elect to go ahead and probe him, insinuating that, he was still in possession of records of Wike’s deeds while he served under him.
The threats by Amechi, however, attracted the ire 0f some Nigerians, who described his latest comments as unbecoming of a governor.
Reacting on Twitter, some described Amaechi as a liability to the All Progressives Congress Party, while others berated him for behaving inappropriately.
Wike’s victory in the state’s gubernatorial election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party has been strongly opposed by the country’s major opposition party,the All Progressives Congress. APC had recently alleged that the poll was full of several irregularities as well as massive rigging.
