Tension in APC on Ministerial Appointments

Forty-eight hours after his inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari has remained silent about those he intends to appoint into key government positions. This has created speculation over the fact that Buhari and key stakeholders in the party may not be on the same page.  Some APC leaders are insisting that they must be carried along in line with the notion of party supremacy. However, according to a Thisday source, former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-general Abdulrahman Dambazau has been penciled down for the post of National Security Adviser.

The president was said to have initially decided to make Dambazau the Minister of Defence, but other APC leaders who got wind of it objected to the appointment of northerners into the two strategic positions of NSA and defence minister. The post of Secretary to the state Government is being contested by Chibuike Amaechi; former governor of Abia State, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu; and the latest entrant, Alhaji Babagana Kingibe. Amaechi however seem to be the favoured candidate.
