Elders and major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State have resolved to unite against the All Progressives Congress, APC, as well as rally round former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson and ensure that the party controls and retains power in the forthcoming governorship elections in the state.
This was one of the resolutions reached at a reconciliatory meeting convened by Jonathan at his country home, Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The elders decried the attitude of some persons close to the former President in Abuja, with governorship aspirations, who used their offices to undermine the state governor and the PDP, adding that some of them have even built parallel governments to fight the state governor and their own party, PDP.
The meeting, which was presided over by Jonathan, also constituted a three-man committee headed by former governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha to reconcile all aggrieved groups and individuals to ensure a united and a more cohesive PDP that will be strong and formidable in all ramifications to face and subdue the opposition in the state.
The committee, which also has King A. J. Turner and Chief Thompson K. Okorotie as members, has two weeks within which to complete its assignment and submit a report to the larger house.
The meeting however advised all governorship aspirants under the platform of the PDP in the state to bury their ambitions and support Governor Dickson, while also calling for discipline, party loyalty and tolerance by all party members.
