APC USA wants Diaspora voting right for 2019

The All Progressives Congress (APC), United State of America (USA) chapter has called on  President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the inclusion of Nigerians in the Diaspora in the next general elections in 2019.

The group made the call when its representatives led by the International Coordinator, Mr Francis John, visited the headquarters of Media Trust Limited, publishers of the Daily Trust titles, on a courtesy call.
Francis said the group was in the country to be part of the inauguration of the new president and to begin the process of engaging the government to give serious thought to the idea of allowing diaspora voting in 2019.
He said: “If Sudan can have  Diaspora vote, then Nigeria cannot be an exception. We cannot continue to treat the huge number of Nigerians in the Diaspora as a no voice.”
Francis also said: “We want the president to consider having a Diaspora desk at the presidency just as we also implore the party to do same.
He said the group is drawing up  the data base of Nigerian Diaspora professionals and is pledging its service to the country in every aspect of national life.
The group which has about 700 members,  differed with the new president on the need to probe suspected fraudulent members of the Jonathan administration.
“We do not support the president’s decision to treat people who stole the treasury dry as a thing of the past. He should take a second look at what they did and if found wanting allow the law to take its course; we think ignoring it is a bad precedence.”
The group said it will host a summit in 2016 as part of its contribution for the revitalisation the Nigerian economy.
