WORRIED by its dwindling fortunes in Anambra State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the area has begun moves to reconcile aggrieved members to be able to forge a common front for the purpose of regaining control of the state government.
At a well –attended meeting convened by the party’s governorship candidate in the 2013 governorship election in the state, Chief Tony Nwoye, the participants identified reasons for the party’s consistent poor performance in state elections, in spite of the fact that it is the most popular political party in Anambra State.
Yesterday’s meeting was the first since the last general elections and those in attendance commended Nwoye for taking the bold step to gather members who had become disillusioned following PDP’s dismal performance in the governorship and state House of Assembly polls.
Addressing the participants drawn from all the 326 wards in the state, Nwoye said they should strive to correct the mistakes that led to their poor performance in the past, rather than continue to bemoan on the result of the elections.
Nwoye said: “Despite our loss in the last general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, still sees PDP as a big threat and that is why we must seize the opportunity to reorganize and restructure our party to make it stronger. Therefore, we have no option than to remain in PDP as there is no alternative.
At the meeting, all the 21 local government areas of the party were mandated to nominate two credible persons each to liaise with state leaders to work out modalities for organizing credible congresses at all levels.
