President Muhammadu Buhari is clearly bent on not formally meeting the new and so far, divisive Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.
The Punch quotes an anonymous Presidency official as saying that the President and Saraki have only met once since the latter emerged as the leader of the fractitious upper legislative house.
The official said all efforts by Saraki to have another meeting with the president, after the party’s National Executive Council meeting two Fridays ago were rebuffed by Buhari.
It seems the Senate President has reached out to several people to help him persuade Buhari to grant him an audience.
If you ever forgot, Saraki defied the official All Progressives Congress stance to contest for, and win the Senate presidency in a June vote that excluded a sizeable number of senators. The APC had endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan as its candidate for the position.
The official is quoted by the newspaper as saying that, “The truth is that the President is still displeased with what transpired in the National Assembly, especially the Senate.
“Their encounter during the APC National Executive Council meeting, when they shook hands, was the first meeting between President Buhari and Saraki since he emerged as the President of the Senate.
“We are aware that Saraki has been going about begging people to assist him to plead with the President to meet with him. That was one of the reasons why he visited former President Obasanjo.
