THE Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, said the anti-corruption drive of President Muhammadu Buhari is selective and one-sided.

The caucus, in a press briefing addressed by the Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said the war against corruption under Buhari lacked transparency, fairness and appeared to be targeted against political adversaries.

The PDP caucus said the president should immediately stop the Directorate of State Services (DSS) from unwholesome interference in the election petition cases in Abia, Akwa-Ibom and Rivers states, adding that the current involvement of the Service could derail democracy.

“It is on this ground that we condemn in particular what is happening in Akwa-Ibom, Rivers and Abia states where election umpires are daily arrested, their families and associates hounded and judicial officers involved in election tribunals intimidated and questioned, using trumped up petitions bordering on corruption.

“Yet these officials were part of the 2015 elections that produced President Buhari, an election adjudged to be globally free and fair by the international community,” he said.

The caucus said it was worried that the DSS was getting involved in electoral matters, adding that it had become more worrisome that the DSS was only active in PDP-controlled states.

Akpabio, who spoke for the PDP senators, said the DSS intrusion into electoral matters was not only condemnable but uncalled for.
