The Clerk of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Mr Bode Adeyelu was on Wednesday arrested by the Police from the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Abuja for allegedly swearing in two members of the state House of Assembly without Certificates of Return.
The Speaker of the house, Mrs Jumoke Akindele escaped being arrested as she reportedly flew from her official quarters located at Alagbaka area of Akure when she got wind of the presence of security operatives from Abuja.
It was also learnt that the two lawmakers, who were sworn in without Certificates of Return, Abayomi Akinruntan and Malachi Coker representing Ilaje 1 and 11 State Constituencies of the state, were also arrested by the Police detectives.
It was gathered that the two lawmakers that were allegedly sworn–in illegally on June 1, had earlier been invited to the Force Headquarters for interrogation over the matter.
It was learnt that investigation into the alleged fraudulent oath administered on the two lawmakers by the Clerk had been concluded last Thursday by the police from the FCID Abuja.
The investigation, sources said had been delayed till last week to enable the clerk make his statement, which he eventually did last Wednesday but failed to appear before the Police on Monday as promised.
DAILY POST gathered that the state Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Segun Agbaje and the two Returning officers for Ilaje I and II in the April 11 House of Assembly Election had also been invited by the Police for interrogation.
It was gathered that the Police are acting on a the petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police(IGP) by the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through its Lawyer, Mr Charles Titiloye, to the effect that the Speaker and the Clerk allegedly conspired to fraudulently swear-in Akinruntan and Malachi Coker without the certificates of Return by INEC.
It would be recalled that the two lawmakers escaped arrest when detectives from the Force Headquarters, Abuja earlier stormed Akure to pick them few weeks ago.
When contacted for comment on the development last night, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police Command, Mr Wole Ogodo said he was not aware of the development.
