EKITI State governor Ayo Fayose has claimed that he knows where President Muhammadu Buhari is hiding his undeclared assets in what appears to be an attempt to dispute the president's squeaky clean image as a corruption-free man.
President Buhari has made the war against corruption the centrepiece of his administration and as part of this programme, he and vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo recently declared their assets. However, Governor Fayose is disputing the credibility of the declaration, adding that the president has more wealth hidden away.
According to Governor Fayose, the public assets declaration by the president was just a ploy to get the applause of the gullible. He warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) not to provoke him into revealing the hidden assets of their members.
Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, spokesman, said: “We know where everybody, including President Buhari’s wealth is hidden and the APC should not provoke the governor to such an extent that he will begin to reveal their hidden assets. Nigerians demanded that President Buhari must declare his assets publicly because that was what the president promised when he was seeking the people’s votes. “
"We have only been told that the president, who they said was poor to the extent that he had to take bank loan to buy his party’s nomination, is now the owner of a mini estate in Asokoro, Abuja that is worth over N3bn (£9.7m). The APC should rather explain to Nigerians how a man they said had no houses anywhere apart from Daura and Kaduna suddenly became owner of houses and landed properties in Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt."
Governor Fayose also asked the APC to tell Nigerians what happened when President Buhari headed Petroleum Trust Fund. He added that the party lied to Nigerians that the president was poor, thereby obtaining Nigerians’ votes by deception.
