Nigerian media body, TheTrentOnline, recently published a report saying vice president Yemi Osinbajo weeks ago stormed out of a meeting with president Muhammadu Buhari after being insulted by Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-rufai, who many say is the actual vice president - click here to read how it all went down
The vice president has condemned the report and recently released a picture depicting the duo in the vice presidential office with smiles on their faces. Some people believe Osinbajo's smile was forced, with good reasons too - see photo here
Many will doubt the authenticity of the story but to every rumour, there is an element of truth.
Here are 7 facts that can be gleaned from the reported exchange - IF the report was actually true. (note: IF is in capital and bolded too)
1. Osinbajo is not a key player in the administration - yet
The vice presidency position isn't viewed as a strong position politically by many. It's believed that a president chooses someone who isn't too ambituous for the position - someone who wouldn't knock him off the presidency seat during his tenure. It seems governor El-rufai shared that ideology.
2. El Rufai is a respecter of none
The governor is publicly noted for his sharp tongue. He doesn't mind sticking it to you- once he can get away with it.
3. Osinbajo does not condone being disrespected
4. Buhari is giving everyone a long rope to hang themselves while he focuses on work
President Buhari is doing a good job with his body language. The president doesn't need to say much to pass meaningful information across. His cold silence on the matter is clearly a rebuff for El-rufai.
5. Osinbajo doesn't like being referred to as 'Tinubu's stooge'
This goes without saying. In normal circumstances, no one will agree to being called the APC leader's stooge.
6. El-rufai's relationship with the president might've become strained
TheTrent report says El-Rufai hasn't been invited to a presidential meeting since the outburst happened.
7. Buhari's kitchen cabinet is not in order
The report indicates El-rufai has been talking smack about Osinbajo behind his back and probably in his presence too. The problem is Osinbajo isn't happy with the governor's attitude any more. A meeting being broken off because of such doesn't augur well for Buhari's kitchen cabinet.
