A raft of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains in Abia State are bemoaning what appears a bleak political future after their followers and hirelings deserted them for the tent of the rave-making All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other political parties in the State, reports our correspondent in Abia State.
The PDP has fallen on hard times in Abia State recently; after years of what the people adjudge as poor governance under the watch of Governors from the party’s stable. Despondent youths who were left with no choice but to pander to the whims and caprices of “Shylock” PDP chieftains are now taking their destinies elsewhere.
“For years, we served their every purpose and obeyed their every command”, a group of fed up young men told Ekekeee in Ohafia, Thursday. “They have destroyed our collective futures while we labored to make the party great. But it’s enough”, the men said, arms flailing in the air as they spoke. They added that “we do not think the PDP means well for Ndi Abia and for us in the longer term”.
It was a similar refrain as Ekekeee traversed the Abia countryside ahead of the general elections in February.
“Our followers have all left us to seek better fortunes elsewhere. These were ‘our boys’ who did our every bidding”, said a group of PDP chieftains in Abiriba, Oboro Ikwuano, Omoba, Osisioma and just about everywhere our correspondent has visited all week long as Abia heads to the ballot to elect a new Governor next month.
Former Managing Director of Diamond Bank and the APGA standard-bearer for the governorship election in Abia State, Alex Otti, has been the recipient of enormous goodwill and support ahead of polling day.
Our correspondent also reports that the PDP in Abia State faces a trouncing like never before in the State as most respondents spoken to said they wouldn’t be voting for the party’s governorship flag-bearer, Okezie Ikpeazu.
