The immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has further debunked the allegation that she stole Nigeria’s money while in office.
The former petroleum Minister, reportedly told the Publisher of Ovation Magazine and The Boss Newspaper, Dele Momodu, that she performed her duties to the best of her knowledge and abilities.
Since her exit from office as minister of Petroleum, Alison-Madueke has been enmeshed in allegation of using her position to steal billions of naira from the country’s coffers.
DAILY POST recalls that Alison-Madueke in June 2008, was subjected to a Senate probe after it emerged that as Transport Minister, she had paid N30.9bn ($263m) to contractors between December 26 and 31, 2007. She is said to be worth over N1bn.
Only recently, she was arrested by officials of the National Crime Agency, United Kingdom over money laundering allegation.
Among the other allegations levelled against her was that she was also reckless in the spending of government’s funds.
In October 2009, the Senate indicted her and recommended prosecution for the alleged transfer of N1.2bn into the private account of a toll company without due process and in breach of concession agreement.
Alison-Madueke has always maintained her innocence while the constituted authorities have never prosecuted her.
She was alleged to have spent billions of dollars recklessly on private jets and responsible for some missing $20bn.
