The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the incumbent governor, and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Seriake Dickson, as the winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election.
He floored his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to win the controversial election.
Dickson polled 134,998 votes, while Sylva garnered 86,852 votes. The result was announced on Sunday night.
This followed the conclusion of the supplementary election held on Saturday.
The initial election was held on December 5, 2015.
Meanwhile, the senator representing Bayelsa central senatorial district, Ben Bruce has congratulated Dickson on his victory.
In his congratulatory message on Twitter, Bruce said: “Congratulations @iamHSDickson. Those who got there through free and fair elections could not use #DoOrDieElections to remove you!”
Similarly, Rivers State governor, Nyesome Wike has hailed Dickson on his re-election.
Wike in a statement issued on Sunday described the outcome of the election as victory for democracy.
