A young plane passenger was shocked to wake up and find her seatmate’s fingers inside her private parts, according to police in Michigan.
Ramamoorthy had been charged with aggravated sexual abuse.
Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen ordered the suspect, who is from India, held without bail as he is a flight risk and danger to the community.
If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, Ramamoorthy is in the U.S. on a temporary work visa and is the project manager at Systems Technology Group in Troy.
On Wednesday, Ramamoorthy and his wife were flying on the Spirit Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.
The husband and wife were sitting beside a 22-year-old woman.
When the woman fell asleep, Ramamoorthy opened her bra and fondled her breasts.
He then opened her pants and put his fingers into her private parts.
The victim woke up after feeling something moving inside her.
The victim immediately notified the flight attendants and Ramamoorthy was arrested when the plane landed.
During questioning, Ramamoorthy first told police that he might have removed the woman’s bra and fondled her breasts but he then denied everything, saying that he fell asleep after taking medication.
Ramamoorthy’s wife said that the only medication her husband took was Tylenol.
