Hamza bin Laden, the son of the late al-Qa’eda leader, has married the daughter of the lead 9/11 hijacker, according to media reports.

In an interview with The Guardian, Osama bin Laden’s half brothers said their half-nephew has married into the family of Mohammed Atta, who flew American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Hamza holds a senior position within al-Qa’eda and has sworn revenge for his father’s death in a US raid in 2011, they added.

“We have heard he has married the daughter of Mohammed Atta,” said Ahmad al-Attas, son of Osama bin Laden’s mother, Alia Ghanem. “We’re not sure where he is, but it could be Afghanistan.”

Hamza, believed to be around 29 years old, “is the son of one of Osama bin Laden’s three surviving wives, Khairiah Sabar, who was living with her husband in a compound in Abbottabad”, in Pakistan, when he was killed, says The Guardian.

The newlywed has been married at least once before and had a son, who was recently “martyred” at the age of 12, reports The Times.

His latest marriage suggests that al-Qa’eda continues to be organised around Osama bin Laden’s legacy, says The Guardian.

“What they would say is that 9/11 alumni remains very viable and very real even 17 years after the fact,” Martin Chulov, a journalist for the paper, told CBS News.

Letters supposedly written by Osama bin Laden that were seized when he was killed suggested he was grooming Hamza to replace him. Hamza has since made public statements urging followers to wage war on Washington, London, Paris and Tel Aviv.

“When we thought everyone was over this, next thing I knew was Hamza saying I am going to avenge my father,” said Hassan al-Attas, Osama bin Laden’s other half-brother. “I don’t want to go through that again.

“If Hamza was in front of me now, I would tell him: God guide you. Think twice about what you are doing. Don’t retake the steps of your father. You are entering really negative and horrible parts of your soul.”

The US State Department added Hamza to its Specially Designated Global Terrorist list last year after he was “determined to have committed, or pose a serious risk of committing, acts of terrorism that threaten the security of US nationals or the national security”, according to CBS News.

Nearly half of adults with autism will experience clinical depression in their lifetime, according to our new research published in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology.

Depression can have devastating consequences for individuals with autism, including a loss of previously learned skillsgreater difficulty carrying out everyday tasks, and at worst, suicide. People with autism should be regularly screened for depression so that they can access appropriate treatment.

Autism is a disorder that involves difficulties with social interactions and restricted repetitive patterns of behaviours. Autism also raises risk for severe mental illness.

Until now, researchers and clinicians did not know how many individuals with autism were affected by depression.

Our study, which involved a systematic review of nearly 8,000 research articles, now reveals clear evidence that depression is highly prevalent in both children and adults with autism. It also reveals that depression is more common in individuals with autism who have higher intelligence.

Symptoms of depression and autism

Clinical depression is defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders by a longstanding pattern of negative mood.

Additional symptoms include loss of interest in activities, physiological changes (e.g. sleep, appetite, or energy disturbance), cognitive changes (e.g. feelings of worthlessness, difficulties with attention) and suicidal thoughts or actions.

In the general population, clinical depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide.

Depression in autism is defined by these same criteria, but the symptoms can be challenging to detect.

Individuals with autism often have trouble identifying and communicating their feelings. Clinicians may have to rely on observed behaviour changes, or the reports of others close to the individual to make a diagnosis.

Clinicians also have to be particularly careful that they do not confuse the symptoms of depression with the symptoms of autism. For example, people with autism and people with depression have difficulties with social relationships.

The key difference between these groups is why they experience these problems. People with autism often lack the social skills necessary to engage with others. In contrast, people with depression often withdraw from others because they lose the ability to find pleasure in their social interactions.

Higher IQ, higher rates of depression

We found that the highest rates of depression are seen in individuals with autism who have above average intelligence.

This finding is in contrast to the general population, where lower intelligence is associated with higher rates of depression.

Our study also revealed that depression is more commonly diagnosed when clinicians ask the person with autism directly about their symptoms, rather than asking a caregiver. (Shutterstock)

While this study did not look into why higher intelligence was associated with higher depression rates in autism, we can make some guesses.

On the one hand, it could be that individuals with autism who have above average intelligence are more aware of the social difficulties associated with their autism diagnosis, and this awareness leads to higher rates of depression.

On the other hand, it could be that individuals with below average intelligence have difficulties communicating their symptoms, making it difficult to diagnose depression in this subgroup.

The impact of research methods

We also learned that how studies assessed depression influenced the rates of depression. Rates were highest among studies that used standardized structured interviews to assess depression, compared to studies that used less formal assessment methods.

It is possible that structured interviews may be picking up on symptoms that other assessment methods are missing. At the same time, structured interviews may bias the prevalence of depression because these interviews were not designed for people with autism.

Depression is also more common when clinicians ask the person with autism directly about their symptoms, rather than asking a caregiver.

It is possible that individuals with autism are experiencing depressive symptoms that their caregivers are missing. It is also possible that studies used a caregiver when participants were not able to report on their own symptoms (for example because of low intelligence).

Depression is more widespread in people with autism than we previously thought.

This important research will hopefully prompt clinicians to include an assessment of depression in their routine clinical practice with people with autism. This assessment will ensure that people with autism are receiving appropriate treatment.

Israel shot down a Syrian fighter jet with surface-to-air missiles Tuesday after the plane infiltrated airspace it controls, the military said, in a rare incident that could provoke tensions.

Israel signalled that the plane’s infiltration may have been the result of internal fighting in Syria’s civil war, but stressed it would enforce the ceasefire lines between the two countries.

“This is a blatant violation of the 1974 separation agreements between Israel and Syria,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

“We will not accept any intrusion or spillage into our territory, either from the ground or from the air.”

The plane, either a Sukhoi 22 or 24, crashed on the Syrian side of the fence in the Golan Heights and it was unclear what happened to the pilot or pilots, Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus told journalists.

It was hit after it penetrated some two kilometres (1.25 miles) into Israeli-controlled airspace in the southern Golan Heights, said Conricus.

A Syrian military source confirmed Israel had fired at one of its warplanes but said the fighter had been carrying out operations against jihadists over Syrian territory.

Israel “targeted one of our warplanes… in Syrian airspace”, the source said, cited by state news agency SANA. The source did not say whether the plane had been hit.

According to Conricus, the plane left from the T4 airbase in central Syria before heading towards the Golan.

Israel’s military monitored the plane throughout and shot it down with two Patriot missiles, Conricus said.

It was the first time Israel shot down a manned Syrian fighter jet since 2014.

 ‘High alert’

“From our perspective, the event is behind us,” Conricus said. “However we of course remain on high alert.”

An AFP correspondent said smoke could be seen rising from the area of the fence between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Israel’s army said there had been an increase in “internal fighting in Syria” from early Tuesday.

“We issued warnings and messages through different channels in various languages, numerous times over the day, in order to avoid any miscalculations, misunderstandings or any violations of Israeli airspace,” Conricus said.

The Syrian military source said the targeting of the warplane was proof of Damascus’s repeated accusation that Israel supports “terrorists” in Syria.

“The Israeli enemy has confirmed its adoption of armed terrorist groups, and targeted one of our warplanes which was hitting them,” the source said.

Israel has been stressing for weeks that it would enforce the ceasefire line between it and Syria amid a Russian-backed government offensive in the country’s south.

Tuesday’s incident comes a day after Israel’s air defences fired at Syrian rockets it feared could hit its territory.

Netanyahu also met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Jerusalem on Monday to discuss the Syrian conflict.

Israel has been on high alert since June 19, when Syrian government forces launched the offensive to retake Quneitra and Daraa provinces, adjacent respectively to the Israeli-held section of the Golan and to Jordan.

It has sought to avoid direct involvement in Syria’s seven-year civil war, but it has acknowledged carrying out dozens of air strikes there to stop what it says are advanced weapons deliveries to the Shiite Lebanese militia Hezbollah, one of its top enemies.

 ‘All forces must leave’

It has also pledged to prevent its arch-enemy Iran from entrenching itself militarily in the neighbouring country.

A series of air strikes that have killed Iranians in Syria have been attributed to Israel in recent weeks.

The strikes have led to condemnation from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, but Israel has maintained good relations with Russia and has coordinated its actions in Syria with Moscow.

Both Russia and Iran are backing Assad in the civil war.

Conricus declined to say whether Israel informed Russia before shooting down the fighter jet, but said there had been conversations on a hotline between the two countries to avoid accidental clashes in Syria throughout the day.

In Monday’s meeting between Lavrov and Netanyahu, Russia offered to keep Iranian forces 100 kilometres (62 miles) away from the Israeli-occupied Golan, but Israel said the proposal did not go far enough.

“We won’t accept Iranian military entrenchment in Syria, not near the border, not beyond the 100-kilometre stretch, which by the way the Russians talk about and agree to,” a senior Israeli official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“We said there are also long-range weapons beyond that distance, and all the forces must leave Syria.”

Israel seized 1,200 square kilometres (460 square miles) of the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War, in a move never recognised internationally.

Photo showing the room where the boyfriend and suspected killer of Miss Khadijat Oluboyo, daughter of the ex-Governor of Ondo State buried her beneath his bed has emerged.

20-year-old Khadijat, a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was found dead in her boyfriend’s house six days after she went missing from school. She was found buried in a shallow grave in Adeyemi’s room.

According to reports, Adeyemi, popularly known as QS, had killed her for ritual purposes then he dug a grave in the room, buried the deceased in it, and placed his mattress on the shallow grave.

It was reported that the Herbalist who did the money ritual for Adeyemi, currently at large, instructed him to keep the corpse for seven days, but luck ran out on the Abuja-based boyfriend when his younger brother became aware of what was going on and reported the incident to the police in Akure before the seven days was up.

Confirming the arrest, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph said the suspected killer was arrested by a team of detectives from the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID). The PPRO said Adeyemi, who was already in the police custody, had been cooperating with the police with relevant information on the circumstances that led to the death of Khadijat Oluboyo.

Traveling to 8 Nigerian cities in 14 days is an idea that I have been brewing for a very long time and on the 1st of September 2017 I decided to explore the railway system and make that dream come true, so I fixed a date – start 26th September and end on the 15th of October 2017!
Starting from Lagos – Ibadan – Osun – kaduna – Abuja – Jos – Enugu – Port Harcourt

After Exploring Ibadan, I headed to Osun by bus to board a train heading to Kaduna.

After much anticipation, 26 hours wait at Osogbo train station (sleeping bathing and brushing at the station) for the arrival of 1 KL (Kano Limited), At exactly 5.45 PM on Saturday the train finally arrived, tickets sold 45 minutes before arrival. Discovered the train was delayed 26 hours as a result of technical and maintenance issues as stated by one of the train hosts onboard! who chose to have his name withheld, stated, ” na rain damage and no maintenance from authorities na e cause am.”

He said, I respect his sincerity and candid opinion. The situation started first with the cancellation of the train route from Lagos to Ibadan, now a long 26 hours wait in Osogbo train station. Really sad I have to start my review on this trip from a negative perspective, but first impression matters right?

Excitedly been my first train trip, I bought a second class train ticket for N1,700 a mistake that became a pain in the ass. Would describe my first entrance at the second class train coach as horrific, first sighting a bunch of people choked in a single space, secondly restrooms oozing out like it’s been abandoned for weeks, sweats, odours oozing from every nook and cranny . It was extreme discomfort!

For the sake of adventure I decided I would stay in second class coach, explore and show the world what it is like in there. So I went searching for a conducive space, however, the more I search, the more nausea I developed, thinking of my health, states and distance we still have to cover, I headed out to replace my second class ticket to a first class.

The second class was occupied by 80% Hausas and 20% all other tribes judging from the train destination (Kaduna, Kano, Minna, Niger, Abuja, dressing) language and dressing. It is characterised by rooftop riders, people standing in every corner, people sleeping on the floor and so on!

Fairly, this coach should be described as an embodiment of distress and the word poverty, no pun intended. More painful is the fact that the train ticket costs enough to get a better treatment.

So who deserves a second class Nigerian train ticket in this present day? Class regardless, the second class coach shouldn’t be as bad as it is for the amount it’s been Sold. The space looks like it was sold for N500 or less but for N1700,it is not acceptable.

Our first class session welcomed an elderly man sweating profusely all the way from second class, according to him name withheld, “the place hot too much and e far from here.” Definitely not disputing the fact, having experienced it.

The second class is one area, the Nigerian railway corporation need to deal with, The first class of 1 KL could be made second class while a more developed version be created as first class. A proper and regular clean-up, proper maintenance should be ensured, and this can be achieved if those in authority selflessly commit, research on foreign train systems and maintenance emulate and make it work here. Sharing her experience in the second class session my train sit partner, name withheld “ko da! four people sat on my seat, it wasn’t good at all since then I haven’t tried it again.”

My attention has been drawn to attacks on my character by Malam Garba Shehu, spokesman to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Not content with his ad hominem attacks on former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Garba has turned his attention to me.

I congratulate him. For historical purposes, let me state that It was Garba who first came for me after I proved him a liar for his claim that any attempt to vote out the All Progressive Congress and vote in the Peoples Democratic Party In next year’s elections would mean that Dame Patience will benefit as a ‘looter’.

I proved that not only was this not true, but that Garba Shehu himself is a part and parcel of the PDP. In his statement calling me a liar, Garba claims that I alleged that he was a Special Assistant in the Buhari Administration for five years. That claim is either a function of dishonesty or semi literacy because I never made such a claim.

I said that Garbs was a Special Assistant in the Obasanjo administration and served that government and the PDP for years. This is a fact and no lie from Garba can change that. Next up, I thank God that Garba Shehu DID NOT deny writing anti Buhsri statements. But how could he, when I have proof? I must commend him for his honesty in that regard.

Let me now take up Malam Garba Shehu’s other points one by one and expose him for the liar that he is. Yes, in 2003 when I returned from England, I was a Personal Assistant to a principal officer in the Obasanjo administration. I was a young man in my 20s and I distinguished myself as my boss attested to. I never claimed to be otherwise.

However, my office was opposite Garba Shehu’s office as I wrote previously. I thank Garba Shehu for saying I was “personable”, but the truth is the truth. I remind Garba that that principal officer is still alive and well as are other witnesses. But even if Garba Shehu denies that his office was opposite mine, at least he was forced to admit that he worked at the Presidential Villa at the same time I did for a PDP administration.

Since that is the case, what moral standing does Garba Shehu have for today writing and releasing statements against the same Peoples Democratic Party administration and officials that he once served as an SA Media? Garba Shehu says he is not an AGIP (Any Government in Power), but then the facts contradict this. What do you call a man who now issues statements for a man and a party he once attacked against the men and party he once praised? I CAN NEVER DO THAT! Garba is the dog that returned to his vomit.

Between Garba Shehu, a man who serves the people he once attacked and myself, a man who had remained loyal to my party in and out of power, who has moral authority? If those things Garba once wrote against Buhari are true, then why is Garba Shehu serving Buhari today? If those things which he wrote were lies, then why did Garba Shehu write them?

I await Garba Shehu’s answer. And to show how much of a liar Garba Shehu is, he is toddy claiming that the visa on arrival policy of the Nigerian government is an achievement of the Buhari administration. This policy was a policy initiated by the Jonathan administration and the Buhari government has no hand in its formulation.

However, when a government is desperate for achievements, it will clutch at straws. Again, Garba Shehu claimed the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta State as an achievement of his achievement-less government. Such desperation! A simple Google search will prove this claim to be a fallacy.

The fact is that nobody in the Buhari administration can take the #BuhariChallenge and name even one project that the Buhari government has initiated, started and completed in the last three years. This is the reason why paid vuvuzelas of the Buhari administration will keep directing their fallacious tongues at people like me who expose their desperate lies.

A federal high court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the eligibility of Kayode Fayemi to contest the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti state.

Fayemi is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Action People’s Party (APP) had lodged a suit following the report by a judicial commission of inquiry set up by the state government to probe Fayemi who was governor between 2010 and 2014.

In the report, Fayemi was indicted of misappropriation of state’s funds and was declared unfit to hold any public office.

Subsequently, a white paper released by the government barred him for holding a public office for 10 years.

In the case with suit number FCT/HC/BW/CV/57/2018, APP asked the court to determine whether Fayemi was fit to hold public office after the indictment by the commission.

The APC in the state had, however, asked if Ekiti government was a court of law that would bar Fayemi from holding public office.

In a judgment on Tuesday, Othman Musa, the judge hearing the case, dismissed the suit on the ground that it was without merit.

Quashing the indictment by the commission of inquiry which he described as being biased, Musa declared Fayemi eligible to contest the governorship election, and that his party is at liberty under the law to field him as its candidate.

The judge added that the section 182 (1) (i) of the constitution on which the suit was filed have been deleted in 2011 by the national assembly through the first alteration of the constitution.

Fayemi will take on Kolapo Olusola, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his major contender in the election.

SARS Operatives Who Collected N5k ‘Mobile Transfer’ As Bribe Arrested

By Dee Onne

A SARS officer who extorted N5,000 from road users in Ikorodu, Lagos state yesterday has been arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation.

A woman lodged a complain to Abayomi Shogunle, the Head Police Complaints Commission Unit, via social media.

Luckily the evidence she provided helped investigation and shortly the Police Boss informed her that the erring police officer has been identified and is being interrogated.

See their exchanges below…

[UPDATED] SARS operatives extort N5,000 from woman, friends, threaten to kill them

The Lagos Police command has arrested an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Charles Omotosho for threatening to kill some Nigerians.

Charles was arrested after one Ifeoluwa Adegoke reported the case to the police and shared her experience on Twitter. This came as she made a transfer of N5000 cash to the officer to release her friends.

Adegoke said she was forced to part with N5,000 to save her life and that of her colleagues, who were accosted by the policemen around 1.20pm while going for a photo shoot.

The victim, who shared a snapshot evidence of the fund transfer on Twitter and the photo of one of the policemen, alleged that the operatives threatened to kill them.

“With my encounter today, it is safe to say SARS men are armed robbers. My colleagues and I left Surulere for Ikorodu, where we were to do a photo shoot. We were four in the car and I was the only female.

“When we got to Ikorodu, the SARS operatives, who were in a vehicle, asked our driver to stop; they were five in their bus – all fully armed.

“They said we were suspected criminals and asked us to come down. They asked the driver to come down too. They checked the car, took our phones and went through them. When they did not find anything, they said we were thieves and cult members.

“When I challenged them that we did nothing wrong, one of them said he would slap me. I told my colleagues to keep calm because I knew it would be stupid for us to argue with armed policemen. I told my colleagues that they would demand money from us in the end.”

“After the search did not yield any fruit, the officials demanded N100,000.I took the operatives through my social media account to show them that we were managing to survive.

“But they said they did not care. I told the inspector that since we were not the kind of people they were looking for and since they did not find anything incriminating on us, they should just release us.

“They said they were going to release us because we were not the kind of people they were looking for; but they won’t release us for free. They started cocking their guns to threaten us; they said they would shoot us.

“I approached one of them and begged that we did not have the N100,000 because we were only young people searching for our daily bread. I told him that I had just N5,000 in my account and he should allow me to transfer it to them.

“The men refused to accede to our request after we did the transfer, they did not allow us to go until they got a credit alert on their mobile phone.

“When we left, I traced the name and discovered that his bank account name, Omotosho Olushola Charles, is the same he uses for his Facebook account. That was how I got his picture,” she added.

The Head of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle, reacting to Adegoke’s complaint said that the police inspector had been arrested.

“My dearest @ife_luv12, I am glad to inform you that the account owner has been identified – Inspector Charles Omotosho, FSARS Ikorodu, Lagos.

“He is in custody; preliminary investigation ongoing. PCRRU will inform you on the next line of action. Sorry for the experience,” he tweeted.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Chike Oti, also confirmed the arrest of the inspector.

He said, “We have arrested the policeman. His trial will commence soon. Any other person found culpable in the course of investigation will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
