Nigerians jailed in UK for £610,000 fraud [PHOTO]

Friday, 10 November 2017 21:51 Written by

Inner London Crown Court has sentenced five Nigerians to various jail terms over the theft of £610,000 from business bank accounts.

Newham Recorder reports that Victor Oke, 39, of Galleons Drive, Barking, used stolen data provided by Desmond Uyiosa Abifade, 25, of Henniker Road, Stratford, to falsely impersonate company directors via telephone banking.

Once Oke gained access, he diverted funds to ‘mule’ beneficiary accounts monitored by Moses Kuye, 28, of Connaught Road, Silvertown.

Melinda Mensah-Oke, 37, also of Galleons Drive, impersonated company directors when a female voice was necessary, while Arinola Kuye, 27, also of Connaught Road, acted as the group’s money launderer.

They convicts were caught after being spotted by fraud investigators at HSBC, who passed the case to the dedicated card and payment crime unit (DCPCU) to investigate.

Police were able to analyse when and where the calls were made to identify the phones used and from there, the perpetrators.

All five were charged with conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation, which they pleaded not guilty to.

Oke was sentenced to four years in prison, while Moses Kuye was jailed for three years and three months.

Mensah-Oke received a fourteen month suspended sentence and Abifade a two year suspended sentence.

Arinola Kuye was given a 12-month community order and instructed to complete 50 hours of unpaid work.

DC Dave Cass, who investigated the case for the DCPCU said: “This was a concerted effort to commit fraud against two companies and profit from crime.

“The police take fraud very seriously and these sentences should send a message to fraudsters that you will be caught and punished.”

Meanwhile, all losses were refunded to the genuine business account holders.

Government bans the term ‘Pregnant Women’

Tuesday, 24 October 2017 10:12 Written by

THE Government has said the term “pregnant woman” should not be used in a United Nations treaty because it “excludes” transgender people.

It is the latest move to extend transgender rights but has angered some feminists who call it “making women unmentionable”.

The statement is in the UK’s submission on amendments to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The treaty, to which Britain has been a signatory since 1976, upholds individuals’ rights.

It says a “pregnant woman” must be protected, including not being subject to the death penalty.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office opposes the term “pregnant woman” because it may “exclude transgender people who have given birth”.

It wants to ensure females who identify as male but have kept their female s*x organs, and can conceive, are covered.

There are only two known cases of transgender pregnancy in Britain.

Feminist writer Sarah Ditum said: “This isn’t inclusion. This is making women unmentionable.

“Having a female body and knowing what that means for reproduction doesn’t make you ‘exclusionary’.

“Forcing us to decorously scrub out any reference to our s*x on pain of being called bigots is an insult.”

Two weeks ago the Office for National Statistics suggested making it voluntary for people to state their gender on the census because it “discriminates” against transpeople.

The proposal provoked uproar with claims that it would make it impossible to plan services for women.

Feminist Germaine Greer said it denied women’s “right to exist”.

The Government is to consult on changes which will make it easier for people to choose their gender in law.

Adults would be able to change birth certificates without a doctor’s diagnosis.

A person who wishes to transition currently needs a gender recognition certificate.

This requires a doctor’s diagnosis and for someone to live as the opposite s*x for two years.

Critics warn that men will get access to women’s hospital wards, r*pe crisis centres, prisons, toilets, changing rooms and competitive sports.

Nigerian Drug Baron Who Imported Drugs Worth Over N500 million to the UK Lands in Hot Soup (Photos)

Thursday, 28 September 2017 00:08 Written by
It is the end of the road for a notorious Nigerian drug baron, Patrick Udensi after he was caught in the UK.
The Nigerian drug baron, Patrick Udensi

A jailed smuggler who imported drugs worth millions of pounds into the UK has been ordered to hand over £1.2m or have seven years added to his sentence.

A judge told Patrick Udensi, 36, from North London (pictured top), to pay the sum after National Crime Agency (NCA) officers discovered he had valuable assets in Nigeria.

Nigerian national Udensi is serving a 15-year prison sentence after smuggling parcels of cocaine and cannabis with street value of £1.8m to addresses in North London.

He laundered the proceeds of his crimes by buying car parts in the UK and shipping them to Nigeria where they were sold on the open market on his behalf.

If he fails to pay cash equal to the value of his Nigerian assets, which the NCA successfully argued in court were the benefit of a criminal lifestyle, he will have seven years and six months added to his sentence and will still owe the money when he comes out.

Udensi was convicted in 2015 following an NCA investigation. An associate, John Arinze Nwosu, 44, from Edgebaston, Birmingham (pictured bottom), absconded before trial and was sentenced to five years in prison in his absence.

The NCA are appealing for information on Nwosu’s whereabouts.

John Arinze Nwosu

Udensi’s smuggling ring was discovered when Border Force officers detected a package mailed from St Maarten in the Caribbean to a North London address.

NCA border investigators found telephone and email evidence that Udensi headed up a group involved in at least 77 different parcel  importations of cocaine and cannabis using 14 different destination addresses across north London.

He used Skype, Yahoo Messenger, iMessage and WhatsApp to communicate with drug distributors in Africa, Asia and South America.

Ian Truby, senior investigating officer for the NCA’s Heathrow border investigation team, said: “NCA officers  will not let criminals serve their time and then fund luxury lifestyles with cash they made by exploiting people.

“We have worked hard in this case and others to find out how an offender has stored their criminal wealth so the courts can take it back from them.

“If Udensi pays up then he’ll get out of prison at the time he expected to. If not, it’s seven more years and the same bill at the end. It’s his choice.”

London Bombing: How Suspect Allegedly Bought Attack Materials Online

Sunday, 24 September 2017 22:19 Written by
A teenager is accused of buying the Parsons Green bomb from Amazon and filling it with knives and shrapnel with the intention of murdering dozens of rush hour commuters.

Ahmed Hassan, 18, allegedly placed a bomb hidden in a Lidl bag and covered it with a pair of trousers on a District Line train and departed the train at Putney Bridge prior to the device detonating.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with attempting to murder a Tube full of commuters and schoolchildren and of using a chemical compound known as TATP to cause an explosion likely to endanger life.

The explosion, described by passengers as "a fireball", still left 30 people injured. Officers have said the device would have killed dozens of people had it properly activated.

Prosecutor Lee Ingham said it is the prosecutions case Mr Hassan bought the components of the home-made bomb from Amazon.

"There were many hundreds of grams of TATP in the device, an electronic timer and several containers of quantities of metal shrapnel including knives, screws and similar items clearly designed to cause severe injuries and death to those nearby.

"The device did not function as intended. It did not function the TATP, probably due to inaccurate construction."

Mr Hassan spoke only to confirm his name and address. Deputy chief magistrate Tan Ikram has sent his case to be heard at the Old Bailey on October 13.

The device that failed to fully detonate on the District Line train at Parsons

Mr Hassan, of Sunbury, Surrey, appeared in court on Friday afternoon. He was arrested in Dover, Kent, on Saturday after police circulated his picture and he was arrested.

Hassan's court appearance came amid claims that the mother of a Syrian refugee who was held over the bombing but then released had suffered a heart attack after hearing of her son's arrest.

Yahyah Farroukh, 21, who was was released without charge on Thursday, was seized by police last weekend outside Aladdins Fried Chicken, in Hounslow, west London, where he worked.

His boss at the takeaway, Suleman Sarwar, demanded an apology from the police and said his mother was in a critical condition in a hospital in Egypt after collapsing from shock.

Mr Sarwar said the takeaway had received "abuse, threats, anger, and hatred" after Mr Farroukh was labelled "a terrorist to the world".

Muslim Women: Switzerland to ban facial coverings

Saturday, 16 September 2017 03:44 Written by

(Reuters/NAN) Switzerland could become the latest country to ban facial coverings worn by some Muslim women after activists collected more than 100,000 signatures required to put the proposal to a national vote.

The group, called “Yes to a Mask Ban” delivered the petition on Friday, setting up a vote by 2020.

Some of its leaders also spearheaded the 2009 Swiss ban on new minarets being built in the country.

A delegation of leaders from the group delivered three boxes containing 106,600 signatures to the federal chancellery, part of the Swiss parliament building in Bern.

Full-face coverings such as niqabs and burqas are a polarising issue across Europe, with some arguing that they symbolise discrimination against women and should be outlawed.

The clothing has already been banned in France.

“Facial coverings are a symbol of radical Islam that have nothing to do with religious freedom but are rather an expression of the oppression of women,’’ said Anian Liebrand, a Swiss campaign leader.

“In Switzerland, we show our faces when we talk to each other.’’

Others contended that bans unnecessarily intrude on religious freedom.

“How many people wear these burqas in Switzerland?’’ said Oender Gueneş, a spokesperson for the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Switzerland, which represents more than 200 mosques,’’ he said.

Walter Wobmann (R), National Councillor and Co-President committee for “Yes to a Mask Ban’’ (Ja zum Verhuellungsverbot), speaks next to Jean-Luc Addor, National Councillor, in front of boxes containing more than 100,000 signatures collected.

These signatures are required to put the proposal of a ban on facial coverings worn by some Muslim women to a national vote, at the Federal Chancellery in Bern, Switzerland.

“You can probably count those living in Switzerland on maybe one or two hands. The rest are usually rich tourists from the Gulf, two thirds of Switzerland’s 8.4 million residents are Christians.

But its Muslim population has risen to 5 per cent, largely because of immigrants from former Yugoslavia.

“One Swiss canton, Italian-speaking Ticino, already has a similar ban.

“At least two demonstrators who wore veils in defiance after the ban came into effect in July 2016 and paid fines of 260 dollars,’’ Swiss media have reported.

The Switzerland-wide initiative foresees parliament deciding on penalties.

Though the measure would also forbid protesters from concealing their faces during demonstrations, the main focus has been on burqas.

France’s ban was upheld in 2014 by the European Court of Human Rights.

This year Germany’s parliament backed a ban on full-face veils for civil servants, judges and soldiers, while Austria and the Netherlands have also debated the issue.

With signatures in hand, leaders of the Swiss initiative expect three years of wrangling in Switzerland’s system of direct democracy before voters get the chance to register their view.

Liebrand is optimistic his initiative’s path would mirror the progress of the 2009 minaret ban.

“The minaret campaign started as underdogs and was something the big parties didn’t want, but I reckon the facial coverings ban will also resonate with the people,’’ he said.

Group urges Britain to revoke IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s citizenship

Friday, 15 September 2017 20:54 Written by

A United Kingdom-based civil society organisation, Citizens United for Peace and Stability, said on Friday it has started gathering facts about the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, intending to ask the UK Government to revoke his British citizenship.

Kanu is a dual citizen of the UK and Nigeria.

According to the Convener of CUPS, Dr. Idris Ahmed, the move seeking the revocation of Kanu’s British citizenship was connected to alleged acts of “terrorism perpetrated by IPOB, including the recent attacks on Northerners living in the Southeast.”

In several Facebook posts on Friday, Ahmed said, “Beyond any doubt, IPOB is a terrorist organisation. I have watched so many video clips on Facebook in which Nnamdi Kanu talked about mobilising weapons and financial resources to wage war against the Nigerian State.

“The CUPS organisation has started compiling evidence to pass to the British Government to strip Nnamdi Kanu of his UK citizenship.

“Under a new law, over 100 UK citizens who went overseas to commit acts of terrorism or fight for ISIS have been stripped of their citizenship by the Home Secretary (Minister of Internal Affairs).

“Nnamdi Kanu perfectly falls into this category.”

Both his dad Bhagawati Lal and mum Manu Devi, died of the HIV five years ago and Umesh went to live with his grandparents in Udaipur, in Rajasthan.

But gran Peepi Bai, 75, allegedly decided to keep him tied with a rope in the cow stable because the little lad is violent and used to run away.

She said: "Umesh was a normal child till he was three.

"But after his parents died he started behaving differently.

"We don’t earn enough money to get him treatment."

Mrs Bai added: "He's sometimes violent and leaves home without anyone knowing.

"We are old and cannot run around looking for him.

"And so we have to keep him tied up."

Elsewhere in the same city, Jiva Ram, 11, from Baydi village in Udaipur, also suffered from polio and mental breakdowns.

He was tied to a tree outside his house by his dad Hurma Ram, 35, a farmer, before he went out to work in his farm.

He said: "He had harmed himself in the past. To avoid any problems we had to keep him tied."

Bhojraj Singh, Aasra Vikas Sansthan child welfare charity founder, said he was shocked to find them tied to a tree like animals.

He said: "It was heartbreaking.

"We were shocked to see the condition in which both children were found.

"Javi was found naked while one of his legs was tied to a tree, whereas Umesh was tied to a bamboo pole, among the cattle.

"Both the boys have been shifted to a shelter home where they will be taken good care of.

"We shall start their treatment and help them grow into good human beings."

Police rescue man with both hands nailed to a tree [VIDEO]

Thursday, 10 August 2017 11:53 Written by

The US Police have rescued a man named Jose Duran whose two hands were nailed to a tree in the forest area of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

According to Breitbart News website, a city worker (who preferred not be named) discovered Duran with both hands nailed to a tree and screaming for help.

Breitbart further reports that a police officer who followed the city worker to the forest finally found Duran nailed to a tree, still conscious, breathing, and groaning in pain.

The officer immediately called for paramedic rescue.

However, Duran initially refused to tell the officer his name but finally gave some details about how he ended up there.

Duran later took journalists to the exact same spot where more than a dozen first responders worked to set him free.

Police have however said they didn’t suspect this was a payback for crime or a cartel-related punishment.

It said Duran does not have a criminal record, but he did have a long-running court battle over a real estate issue.
